Experimental investigation under laser-driven shocks of the dynamic behavior of materials for beam-intercepting devices in particle accelerators
/ Accettura, C (CERN) ; Baudin, L (CERN) ; Bertarelli, A (CERN) ; Brabetz, C (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Carra, F (CERN) ; Martynenko, A S (Darmstadt, GSI) ; Morena, A (Polytech. Turin) ; Moros, A (CERN) ; Peroni, L (Polytech. Turin) ; Scapin, M (Polytech. Turin) et al.
In the present work the results of an extensive experimental campaign in which laser-shocks were used to assess the mechanical strength of graphitic materials are
presented. The aim of the project was to study innovative advanced materials used in high energy particle accelerators for beam intercepting devices (BIDs), such as
collimators, absorber blocks and dumps. [...]

Dynamic response to short-pulsed U-ion beams of material candidates for vacuum beam windows manufacturing
/ Notari, Lorenzo (Polytech. Turin) ; Pasquali, Michele (Rome U.) ; Carra, Federico (CERN) ; Losasso, Marcello (CERN) ; Guardia-Valenzuela, Jorge (CERN) ; Tomut, Marilena (Munster U. ; Darmstadt, GSI)
The introduction of next-generation extremely energetic particle accelerator facilities, such as the High-Luminosity upgrade of the LHC (HL-LHC) or the proposed future circular collider (FCC), will dramatically increase the energy stored in the circulating particle beams. This will critically affect the thermo-physical and mechanical properties of the materials adopted, possibly compromising their reliability during the operating lifetime. [...]

Design and experimental verification of a bunch length monitor based on coherent Cherenkov diffraction radiation
/ Davut, C (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; Manchester U.) ; Xia, G (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; Manchester U.) ; Apsimon, O (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; Manchester U.) ; McGunigal, J (Cockcroft Inst. Accel. Sci. Tech. ; Manchester U.) ; Karataev, P (JAI, UK) ; Lefevre, T (CERN) ; Mazzoni, S (CERN) ; Senes, E (CERN)
This paper presents the design and experimental commissioning of a noninvasive electron bunch length monitor based on the detection of coherent Cherenkov diffraction radiation (ChDR). The measurement technique effectively eliminates the influence of bunch-by-bunch charge fluctuations, as each detector measures the signal from the same bunch while mitigating the impact of bunch position jitter on the measurements, providing a potential real-time diagnostic tool with significant operational advantages. CMS CSC aging study at GIF++ setup
/ Perelygin, V V (Dubna, JINR)
/CMS Muon Collaboration
The investigation into the longevity of gaseous detectors is of paramount importance, particularly in anticipation of the forthcoming upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) to the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) and the planned alterations to the CMS forward endcap zone. Aging effects are meticulously examined at the Gamma Irradiation Facility (GIF++) at CERN, focusing on two crucial components: the ME1/1 and ME2/1 cathode strip chambers (CSC) within the CMS. [...]

Search for the Critical Point via Intermittency Analysis in NA61/SHINE
/ Reyna Ortiz, V Z (Jan Kochanowski U.)
/NA61/SHINE Collaboration
The existence and location of the QCD critical point are objects of both experimental and theoretical studies. The comprehensive data collected by NA61/SHINE during a two-dimensional scan in beam momentum and system size allows for a systematic search for the critical point – a search for a non-monotonic dependence of various correlation and fluctuation observables on collision energy and size of colliding nuclei.
