Charge reconstruction from binary hit data on irradiated MALTA2 Czochralski sensors
/ Fasselt, Lucian (DESY ; Humboldt U., Berlin (main)) ; Asensi Tortajada, Ignacio (CERN) ; Behera, Prafulla (Indian Inst. Tech., Madras) ; Berlea, Dumitru Vlad (DESY ; Humboldt U., Berlin (main)) ; Bortoletto, Daniela (Oxford U.) ; Buttar, Craig (Glasgow U.) ; Dao, Valerio (Stony Brook U.) ; Dash, Ganapati (Indian Inst. MALTA2 is a depleted monolithic active pixel sensor (DMAPS) designed for tracking at high rates and is produced in the modified Tower 180nm CMOS imaging technology. The pixel pitch is 36.4µm and the sensing layer consists of either high resistivity epitaxial or Czochralski silicon. [...]

MLR1: CMOS MAPS technology validation for ALICE ITS3
/ Sturniolo, A (INFN, Catania ; Catania U. ; Catania, CSFNSM)
/ALICE Collaboration
The second ALICE Inner Tracking System upgrade project (ITS3),
to be completed during LHC Long Shutdown 3 (LS3, 2026-2028), will dramatically
reduce the Inner Barrel (IB) detectors’ material budget and thus improve the ITS
tracking capabilities (detection efficiency and track resolution). For this purpose,
the ITS3 project envisions replacing the current ITS2 IB with 6 flexible, truly cylindrical
half-layers, supported only by a carbon foam frame and cooled down by an air
system. [...]

A novel approach to assist fast tracking at the ATLAS trigger
/ Zaio, A (Genoa U. ; INFN, Genoa)
/ATLAS Collaboration
The track reconstruction process within the trigger system of the
ATLAS experiment shows a processing time which increases significantly as a function
of the average pile-up amount of the pp collisions, so that the future upgrade to
the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC), with way higher levels of pile-up, will imply
a considerable growth of the computational cost for the current trigger algorithms.
To face this issue, an innovative machine-learning-based technique to assist tracking
by filtering out background hits is presented and characterized. The algorithm is
based on a Convolutional Neural Network architecture and is trained and tested
using an independently developed toy event generator..

Evaluating the performance and long-term stability with LHC-like background irradiation of RPC detectors with CO2-based gas mixtures
/ Juks, Stefania A (U. Paris-Saclay) ; Guida, Roberto (CERN) ; Mandelli, Beatrice (CERN) ; Rigoletti, Gianluca (CERN) ; Verzeroli, Mattia (Lyon U.)
Resistive Plate Chamber (RPC) detectors at CERN’s LHC experiments traditionally use a Freon-based gas mixture containing C2H2F4 (R-134a) and SF6, both of which are high global warming potential (GWP) gases. To reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, operational costs, and optimise RPC performance, one possible mid-term solution is the gas mixture with a substitution of 30% of R-134a with CO2 in the standard RPC gas mixture. Study of a Kinematic Fit algorithm on the $b \bar b \gamma\gamma$ channel for the search of Higgs bosons pairs at the ATLAS detector
/ Orlandini, R (INFN, Rome3 ; Rome III U.) ; Micco, B Di (INFN, Rome3 ; Rome III U.) ; Montereali, F (INFN, Rome3 ; Rome III U.)
/ATLAS Collaboration
The research for Higgs bosons pairs, produced at the LHC, is a
fundamental step for the study of the Higgs potential. The observation of this rare
phenomenon would allow the measurement of its higher order terms, among which,
the tri-linear Higgs self coupling. [...]

Deflation and polynomial preconditioning in the application of the overlap operator at nonzero chemical potential
/ Ramirez-Hidalgo, Gustavo (IAS, Julich) ; Finkenrath, Jacob (CERN)
When solving linear systems with the overlap operator at nonzero chemical potential $\mu$ in lattice QCD one needs, at every iteration of the iterative solver, to apply the sign function evaluated on a non-Hermitian operator $Q_{\mu}$ times a vector, i.e., $\mathrm{sign}(Q_{\mu})v$. In this work we describe how deflation and (the more recently proposed) polynomial preconditioning can be applied to this problem, in particular in the context of lattice QCD. [...]
